what to expect in your first consultation?

The first consultation will take around 45-60minutes during which your Osteopath will ask a full thorough history. An Osteopath only sees one patient at a time so the treatment is 100% dedicated to you! We ask that you arrive 10 minutes prior to your first consultation in order to do some paperwork.

WHAT TO WEAR TO YOUR TREATMENT?

It is important that you are comfortable throughout the consultation. Loose fitting clothing is usually advised. The practitioner may ask for you to undress to bra and undies depending on which body part needs to be treated so they can adequately assess you.

DO I NEED A REFERRAL?

An Osteopath is a Primary Health Care practitioner therefore a referral is not necessary.

CAN YOU CLAIM WITH PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE?

Yes! We have a HICAPS (Health Industry Claims and Payments Service) facility on the premises which allows for easy on the spot claims. Be sure to contact your health insurance provider to make sure you have extras with Osteo which allows for you to claim. You will then be required to make the remaining payment.

IS OSTEO TREATMENT COVERED BY MEDICARE?

Osteo treatment is not covered by medicare unless you have had chronic pain for over 6 months and get a referral from you GP for a Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) plan. This plan entitles you to 1-5 appointments that will give you a rebate from medicare. You are then required to pay the gap.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

If you have any reports of scans it would be useful if you could bring them along to your appointment. Your health insurance card and some extra water to keep hydrated after treatment is always important.

WHATS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OSTEO / PHYSIO / CHIRO?

One of the most common questions we get ask. There are a few similarities with each profession, however the main difference is behind the philosophies behind treatment and the techniques used. Osteopathy is considered a hands on treatment and aims to get to the root of your complaints to treat the cause of your problem, not just the symptoms, to achieve long-lasting health and wellbeing

IS OSTEO SAFE?

There’s no form of medical treatment which is guaranteed safe in every case. However, Osteopathy has one of the best safety records of any medically-related profession. Osteopaths are trained to recognise any condition that might make Osteopathic treatment inadvisable, and will refer patients for appropriate medical attention in such cases.
